Josef did his military service in the Austro-Hungarian army, where he was a "Hussar"; he was posted in Nagyvarad - (Oradea, Rumania of today), in Transilvania. While there, he fell in love with Etus, who came from a small town close to Nagyvarad-. His mother opposed the marriage, but he went ahead and married anyway, moving away from Drahova and raising his family in Nagyvarad. After a while the situation was accepted and the Salamon family visited Drahova for certain Holidays. Josef was a grain merchant for some time, after which he went into the tannery business. They were religious but nonetheless he lent his house for meetings of Hashomer Hatzair Zionist youth.

Ernö studied in what was called a "Commercial High School" having studied administration. Was "recruited" at the age of 19 by the Hungarian army (about 1939), worked in forced-labor camp (Munkaszolgalatos) during 2nd World War (1939 until 1945), first under the Hungarian's, then under the nazis in a Jewish platoon, cutting trees and digging trenches; Survived the Holocaust; he escaped in the beginning of 1945 and started walking back home. He survived, to find out his whole family had been murdered in Auschwitz. Married almost immediately. Around mid 1947, under the imminent threat of invasion of the Russian regime he escaped with wife and child to Prague, Czechoslovakia because other relatives were already there, then to Paris, where with the help of JOINT arrived in Lima-Peru, in May 1948.
Lost his right forearm in 1949 in a work accident while working in a tannery in Magdalena del Mar, Lima. Moved to the town of Huacho in 1950, where he worked as a tannery foreman. Moved back to Lima in 1953 where he and his wife settled in a small house in Huascar 1825, in the Jesus Maria district where he and Edith raised their three children. Started off peddling chewing gum to small stores; he then started selling "plaqué" objects, when he decided to open a small workshop in a small garage. This grew to a metal-mechanics small factory shop called "EDERSA" (EDith ERnesto SAlamon) located in José Galvez 623, district of La Victoria in Lima.
He was active in every Jewish and/or Zionist organization/event he could participate. His home was frequently visited by other members of the Hungarian speaking Jews in Lima. He was also initiated as a Francmason, activating in "Kosmos #7" lodge and after that becoming founding member of "Harold Goldfarb #23" lodge. He saw to it to get their children into Zionist Youth movements and Lima's Hebrew School, "Colegio León Pinelo", where he activated in the "Asociación de Padres de Familia" (PTA) becoming the president for the year 1964; their summer weekends were usually spent at "Hebraica", the Jewish Community Club.
In 1971 he made Aliah and lived in Bat Yam in an apartment of his own he had been paying off for many years, located at Rehov Rotschild 56/1. He had a double cabin red Volkswagen with which he moved around. The first few years he worked for a low salary in a state organization which brought manual work to the homes of elderly people. Erno went from home to home taking parts and pieces of things to be assembled by them, he picked up the finished work and paid of the people. He was only 51 but he looked 65. He made himself member of "Breichat Gordon", a salt water swimming pool next to the Tel Aviv Marina, where he used to swim every day of the year. In his late 60's his health started to fail, had heart problems, diabetes, and started to suffer from Alzheimer. He died at the Wolfsson Hospital in Bat Yam on erev Chanukah 1995. He was a good man.
