Note: Ghersh was a truck driver in the Romanian and Red Army and received medals from both. He fought with the first Soviet troops who reached Berlin. In the meantime, Ana was deported to Transnistria with her two daughters, Rosa and Frida. At the end of the war Ana and Ghersh met purely by chance. Ana was walking West towards Romania with a group of refugees from Transnistria and Ghersh was driving East from Germany. After the war they settled in North East Romania, in Dorohoi, a major Jewish town.
Death: 2001
Note: Ana and Haim saw each other in Israel for the first time in 40 years. One sister, Sonya was the only one who stayed in the USSR, namely in Lipcani, near Kishinev. Her daughter Tania, married Sioma who became president of a kolhoz and high ranking (local) member of the Communist Party. They cut contact with us when we moved from Romania to Israel. They have one son, Stasic, who last I knew, in 1975 was an officer in the Soviet navy. I can elaborate more on this side of the family as well.
