Note: Supposedly sailed on the SS Columbus on January 1939, Louis Pinkus and Rosa Nothmann. Possibly destined to NY. Denny Pinkus mentions that they were jailed on arrival as they did not have legal entry visas. Supposedly they continued voyage to South America, destination Bolivia. Note: Her son Peter(before she was taken) was sent throught the Swiss under-ground. After she was released from concentration camp, it took her nearly 5 years to find her son. (source: 7393)
She was strong as steel, vivacious, practical, no-nonsense, very witty and extraordinarily attractive. Up until close to her 80's she wore spiked high heels, was well groomed from head to toe and married a total of 4 men. She had gorgeous blue eyes and platinum blonde hair, though I am sure it was dyed due to the times. She somewhat resembled Marlene Dietrich but even more beautiful. She was petite and very flamboyant in dress, yet stylish and elegant. Very classy woman, somewhat coquettish. I will never forget this time ( and my dad always laughs proudly when I often retell this story), I was 3 years old and grandma and I finished watching her favorite soap opera " As the World Turns" where some child got hit by a car...I asked " grandma , if I were to walk in the middle of the road and a car came, would you come save me"? Her reply was " Babyly ( as she called me) if you are dumb enough to walk in the middle of the road with cars coming, you deserve to get hit". Grandma had no sympathy and encouraged all of us to be strong individuals. I often think about her and feel a strong connection to her, though she passed many years ago. (Source: 7450)
Death: 1989 USA
Note: I found Irma and her son Horst - not Henry. She was born in Keltsch & he in Breslau. Ship is the Pennland from Antwerp, Oct. 1, 1938. Her son was 7 so she must have married in Germany. (source 7393)

Note: When Heinz left La Paz, Bolivia, he went to see his sister Edith, who at that time was living in New York. He skipped out on his bond. Changed his name to Frank Thomas and lived in USA for over 20 years before letting his wife know who he was and that he was in the US illegally. He received his green card 2 month prior to his death. Died Feb. 14, 1975. He had finally found Edith and went to see her where she was living in Hollywood, Florida USA. He died the second day there. (source: 7393)
